As you enter the Jervis Arms car park the first tree is a twin stemmed Ash (F. excelsior) on the left hand side. It has had Ash die back for several years, is badly affected and has become unsafe. It also suffers from a poor union between the stems. It needs to be felled. One side is over the car park the other over the garden. Both are soon to see use. Two replacement Silver Birch trees have been planted. One next it, one further up the car park. The Noble Fir (Abies procera) next to the bridge needs to be lightly crown lifted on the roadside to enable users of the car park to see and be seen. I believe a metre above the bridge parapet would suffice for this task. Branches below the parapet would be retained. At the top most part of the pub garden going up hill on the other side of the pub is a Goat Willow (Salix caprea). Its self sown and will grow much larger and cause problems with the wire services above and with motorists coming down the hill and not being aware a pub is just around the slight bend. If drivers are able to see the pub there is much more chance of the drivers anticipating a hazard and taking appropriate care. A mountain Ash (Sorbus aucuparia) would be planted as a replacement.
T1 Horse Chestnut: Reduce weight from heavy branches to reduce the risk of the branches failing. T2 Horse Chestnut: Reduce weight from heavy branches to reduce the risk of the branches failing. T3 Horse Chestnut: Reduce weight from heavy branches to reduce the risk of the branches failing. T4 Silver Birch Fell to ground level. T5 Yew Fell to ground level.

T1 on the Site Plan - Dead Ash tree (with dieback). Hamps Valley Tree Surgeons advised to take down the whole tree. T2 on the Site Plan - Small Sycamore with squirrel damage. This tree is causing damage to the drystone boundary wall. Hamps Valley Tree Surgeons advised to take down the whole tree and adjacent Beech hedge which is also causing damage. T3 on the Site Plan - Sycamore which is causing damage to the drystone boundary wall and limiting the growth of the adjacent (much larger) Sycamore. We propose to take down the whole tree to enable wall repairs and give space for the larger Sycamore to flourish.

There are 5 Leylandii conifers that were planted (we believe) 20-30 years ago, adjacent to an old (about 200 years old) dry stone wall, with the closest just under 2m from the house. We wish to remove these non-native trees that have grown to 4m high in order to prevent damage to the stone wall and to the foundations of the house, as well as reducing the impact of the trees on natural light in the house.

Large ash tree showing signs of ash dieback: -Landowner is worried and would like to pollard the tree to see if it will recover -The location of the tree over to 5053 is the main concern
T1 - a rowan tree located near the entrance to the church, opposite the pub. It has a hollow trunk and rotten wood around the hole at the base of the tree. if this tree were to fall, it would present a danger to people entering the church or people on the road near the Black Lion Inn. T2 - A rowan tree located close to the churchyard wall above the road and the church carparking area. This tree had a distinct lean in towards the church. If it were to fall it would cause the wall to fall and this could damage parked vehicles. T3 - a lime tree near the bend. It has many dead branches and a number dropped into the road and into the churchyard in the storms. It is unsightly. T4 - a tall Douglas Fir which has lost branches in the storms, some are still hanging off. Its height and proximity to the road are a major concern. T5 - a conifer, very lopsided and leaning heavily over the gravestones. If this tree came down it would destroy many headstones and cause a great deal of damage as well as heartache for the local community. Paul Storer has visited the churchyard, examined the trees and recommends the removal of the trees listed here for the reasons stated. He noted also that their removal would also give more room for other healthier trees to flourish.

6 Mature Ash Trees that have very early signs of Ash Die Back. 1 is 5 meters from a holiday cottage used by the public. Numbered 4 on the plan 1 is 5 meters from a neighbouring property numbered 2 on the plan. 2 are over hanging a public road numbered 2 and 3 on the plan. 1 is close to 2 properties numbered 5 1 is below number 4 and needs minimal work. Ideally we want to preserve the trees and make safe by crown reducing or lifting maintaining the mature tree but reducing the weight of the bigger limbs so habitat won't be lost. We have discussed the work with local tree surgeon Paul Storer who has previously done work for us and seen examples of similar work he has recently undertaken in the village on mature ash trees with die back. It has to be emphasised that we have several other mature ash trees on our property which are in safer positions that we are monitoring and are healthy at the moment our aim is to prolong the life of the trees but ensure they are as safe as possible close to buildings and areas where the public go.

Tree - Ash - Fraxinus Work required to monolith the ash tree, which is adjacent to the working shed of a neighbours property as by the picture, they are BT Cables close by, to monlith the tree would remove any fallen branches and allow the tree to regrow, with stronger branches. A monolithic tree is by removing the entire crown and all main branches, whilst ensuring the standing stem (trunk) remains a balanced structure.
