CHE/22/00108/TPO | Chesterfield | Small | Conditions | Trees | Application to fell tree T2 shown on the attached plan and highlighted in green this is a beech tree (Fagus sylvatica) and is approximately 32 meters tall with a crown measurement of approximately 17.5m x 16m with the crown extending by 11m on the South side 10m on the east side, 6m on the West side and 6.5m on the North side making the crown heavily weighted towards the South East side of the tree and towards my property.I identified a cavity in the left limb of the tree on the West side of the tree in February 2019 and applied to reduce and thin the crown of the tree by 30% to reduce the sale effect of the crown on the tree and also reduce the stress on the section of the limb with the cavity in it to hopefully prevent the need to fell the tree and prolong its life which I received permission to carry out.The permitted works were carried out in 2019 but we were unable to asses the full extent of the cavity at this time due to a squirrel having a dray in the cavity at the time however I have now been able to access the cavity to allow my tree surgeon and myself to assess the extent of the loss in structural strength caused by the cavity which has massively increased since 2019.The limb which contains the cavity supports 80% of the crown of the tree weighting toward the property on the South East side, the cavity extends by 600mm into the limb which at its thickest point is 850mm in diameter, at its narrowest point is 750mm in diameter and the cavity extends up into the limb by 800mm which means that this limb has lost in excess of 75% of its structure which posses a significant threat to both my property and any persons accessing or living at my property.I have considered the possibility of a significant crown reduction but due to the species of the tree (Beech) which do not respond well to heavy crown reductions and due to the location of the cavity which is 10m from the base of the tree and 1.5m from the man union of the tree were the trunk divides into t... | 3 Ashleigh Close Old Whittington Derbyshire S41 9NA | 20/02/2021 | Link |
