The trunk now stands at approximately 6.5 metres tall. Since the previous reduction work was undertaken, some small new branches have grown on the side of the tree that faces north east. Martin Whitehead of Whitehead Tree Care has assessed the crown reduction work and has also advised that the fungus growing on the tree is ganoderma applantum which causes heartwood rot. It is therefore proposed to reduce what remains of the crown (trunk) by a third this year, so that after pruning it will be approximately 4.25 metres tall, with a further 2 metres crown (trunk) reduction next year with a view to felling the final third of the trunk in 2022. This long term programme of works is designed to reduce the risk of sudden shocks to the root system and associated risk of subsidence to nearby property.
